FG Explains How Nigerians, Businesses Can Track Estimated Bills and Avoid Being Short-Changed By Discos

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), has provided a guide to electricity consumers on how to track their bills even with the use of estimated billing by the electricity distribution companies.

The initiative by the commission is to help reduce discrepancies with the estimated billing by electricity distribution companies as well as avoid being unfairly short-changed.

FG Confirms Collapse Of The National Grip

In April, the federal government confirmed that the national grid had collapsed, but with a promise that the issue will be fixed soon.

The situation was confirmed in a terse statement sent to Legit.ng on Saturday, April 9, by the minister of power, Engr Abubakar Aliyu.

The minister disclosed that all hands were on deck to restore the power supply soon while also noting that investigations were ongoing by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and System Operator to checkmate the real issue behind the recurring collapse of power in the nation.

A couple of months ago when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) reavealed that it has flagged over 1.3 million completed voter registration as invaild, this was met with contrasting reactions from various quarters.

Recall that this issue of invalid registrations was first revealed before the Anambra governorship elections where over 63,000 and out of the less than 150,000 new registrations were flagged as invalid. The latest in the spate of invalid votes discovered by the INEC is in Ekiti State with over 47,000 voter registration flagged as invalid.

2023: Catholic Priest Sends Back Members Without Voters Card

One may presume that INEC will strategically upgrade its civic technological solutions to track potential invalid registrations, review data and recommend instant solutions at the point of either pre-registration or physical capturing. Indeed, a lot of Nigerians are running out of time and patience to join the voter register ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Knowing that it is the only way to determine who leads at various levels of government, there seems to be an upsurge in demand and mobilization for the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration (CVR). And there is immense fear that a pool of young men, women and People with Disability may be disenfranchised ahead of the 2023 elections despite their penchant to participate in the process.
